The Orpheum – Ybor City, Florida – July 20, 2012

Welcome to SHINE!

Christina Von Eerie welcomes us to “one of the most coolest bars” in Ybor City. Von Eerie will face Cherry Bomb for the first time tonight. She puts her opponent over and says it’s going to be a kick-ass match.

Mercedes Martinez is Ready for Anything. Almost

“The Latina Sensation” is prepared to face Leva Bates tonight, after reading lots of comic books and watching super hero movies. Since I don’t know Bates, I don’t know the significance of that. Someone dressed as Spider-Man then drops in for some reason. Okay then.

MATCH #1: Kimberly vs. Veda Scott

They start with some chain wrestling to feel each other out in the early going. Down on the mat Kimberly seems to have the advantage. Scott uses her quickness to take the advantage and hits a low dropkick for a two-count. Kimberly comes back with a side Russian Legsweep for two. She presses the advantage and wears Scott down with a variety of offense. Scott gets up to the second rope and hits a clothesline for a two-count. Toronto, Canada – April 13, 2012

Lenny Leonard opens the show in the ring to run down the main events and hype up the crowd. He announces that due to travel issues, some of the advertised performers will not be making it. The Super Smash Brothers come to the ring and want to face Chuck Taylor’s mystery team. Taylor brings out Jake Manning and Drew Gulak, and calls them the Gentleman’s Club. He likes them more than Johnny Gargano and Rich Swann, who he was apparently forced to hang out with. I hate stuff like that – the office made me do this, and now they can’t make me do anything. Anyway, the match is on.

Lenny Leonard and Arda Ocal are on commentary.

MATCH #1: The Super Smash Brothers (1-2) vs. The Gentleman’s Club (Drew Gulak & Jake Manning) (0-0)

Manning and Player Uno start it off. Uno gets the early advantage so tags are made. Player Dos and Gulak are the more agile of the their teams, and they show that off. Momentum shifts several times in the early going as both teams try to set the pace. Dos sends both Gulak and Manning to the floor with a simultaneous hurricanrana. He and Uno tease a dive but the Gentleman’s Club gets out of the way before they can attempt it. We’re back in the ring with Manning and Uno. The Gentleman’s Club use some questionable tactics to gain control. The ring looks really small. Read the rest of this entry »

MATCH #1: Bobby Fish vs. Jon Davis

They take it down to the mat and exchange holds, much to the crowd’s delight. Davis definitely has the power advantage here and he’s not shy about using it. Fish hits a dropkick and then unleashes more kicks. Davis catches him in a big spinebuster for two. Now Davis is in control and he wears Fish down using his superior power. Davis hits a delayed vertical suplex for two. Fish fights back with kicks and knee strikes, and lands one right under Davis’ jaw for a two-count. He takes Davis down with a snap mare and goes up top for a moonsault but misses and lands on his feet. Fish hits a dragon screw out of the corner and goes for the Fish Hook but Davis kicks him off. Davis pops up and hits the Pounce. He goes for 3 Seconds Around the World but Fish counters it. Davis counters that into a powerslam for a two-count. Read the rest of this entry »

MATCH #1: AR Fox vs. Rich Swann {R}

Fox is coming off an excellent performance against PAC last night. He also has defeated Swann in their first two matches against each other, at EVOLVE 7: Aries vs. Moxley and EVOLVE 8: Style Battle. That means Swann has something to prove. Swann strikes firs with a dropkick. Fox comes back with a spinning Fisherman Buster for two. Swann rolls to the floor and Fox tries the Kickflip Dive but misses, and Swann hits one of his own. Back in the ring Fox retakes control with a Stunner. Fox gets the crowd into it with his high-flying prowess. He hits a split-legged moonsault for a two-count. Fox continues on offense but can’t keep Swann down. Swann comes back with a step-up enziguiri on the top rope and a super rana. He hits a Scissors Kick and a Rolling Chocolate Thunder for two. Fox catches Swann in the Death Valley Driver and a beautiful Swanton for a near-fall. Swann rolls to the floor and Fox wipes him out with that reverse somersault senton that he does. Back in the ring Fox misses the guillotine legdrop on the apron. Ouch. Read the rest of this entry »

The German American Society Clubhouse – Hollywood, Florida – March 29, 2012

MATCH #1: Low Ki vs. Bobby Fish

Gee, I wonder who’s going to win this one? They take it down to the mat and pretend to be shoot fighters in the early going. Both men use strikes to try and wear their opponent down. They trade control, each man landing hard kicks, forearms, and chops. Fish hits a belly-to-back suplex for two. He follows with a dropkick for another two-count. Fish controls Ki for a bit, and hits a powerslam for a one-count. The crowd is supportive of both guys. Ki comes back with an O’Connor Roll with a bridge for two. Fish cuts him off and goes right back on the attack, focusing on the midsection. Ki avoids a charge in the corner and then pops out with Tidal Crush. He goes for the Ki Krusher but Fish blocks it and hits a hard knee strike. Fish charges into the corner and eats a boot. Read the rest of this entry »

LAX Westin Grand Ballroom – Los Angeles, California – January 27, 2012

Lenny Leonard is on commentary by himself. Chuck Taylor joins him later.

Union

This is a message announcing that DGUSA and EVOLVE have formed a union, and that titles, alliances, and feuds will crossover to both promotions. This sounds like a good move.

MATCH #1: Low Ki vs. BxB Hulk {BW}

This is Ki’s DGUSA debut. Hulk is one half of the Open the Twin Gate Champions along with Akira Tozawa, who accompanies him to ringside. They start with some unique chain wrestling. Ki lands the first chops and the crowd shows that they are into both guys. Hulk comes back with some kicks and Ki responds with chops. Ki takes Hulk back down to the mat and tries to keep him there. Hulk comes back with more kicks and lands one right on the side of the jaw for a two-count. He continues the attack and locks Ki in a half Boston Crab, adding some kicks to the head for good measure. Ki is able to get to his feet and hit an enziguiri to break it. He unleashes some kicks and a leaping forearm. Ki hits a snap mare and a kick to the back for a two-count. He tags Hulk with more kicks but can’t quite put him away. Hulk fires back with a spin kick for two. He misses a charge in the corner and Ki hits the shotgun dropkick. Ki hits the Ki Krusher and the Warrior’s Way for the win at 10:51. Read the rest of this entry »

The Asylum Arena – Philadelphia, PA – January 14, 2012

Unified

Lenny Leonard announces that Dragon Gate USA and EVOLVE have formed a union. While they will be presented separately, storylines and feuds and things will cross over between both promotions. I think this is a good idea and will certainly make EVOLVE stronger.

MATCH #1: Ahtu (0-0) vs. Open Contract

Ahtu is accompanied by his manager Larry Dallas. He has an open contract for tonight, and it’s answered by the one and only Low Ki! The crowd loves having the first-ever ROH Champion in the house, and they give him a big ovation. Ki immediately gets a rolling Koppo Kick and Ahtu is legit knocked out at. He follows with a Tidal Krush and then hits the Warrior’s Way for the pin at 1:51. Obviously that wasn’t much of a match but it did immediately establish Low Ki as a force to be reckoned with.
Rating: ½*

Ki gets on the microphone after the match, complaining about the state of the professional wrestling business. He says boys are trying to be men and actors are trying to be professional wrestlers. Ki says he’s here to be a catalyst for change and he wants his profession back.
